Princess of the Damned
In response to Anne Rice's most recent QotD (book) post. MY GOD what a lot of fucking brown-nosers Anne has there! I was going to post it in a comment there but I lost my nerve. The movie lovers are there but we are massivly outnumbered!

Although Anne (Rice) may hate the QotD movie (I personally LOVED it) and yes I had read the book, in fact it was my first VC book I ever read (somewhere in the 1993 to 1995 timeline) and I loved it despite the fact it was confusing for me in a few places and my favorite character was Jesse (and sadly she is nowhere else to be seen in any book after QotD). PP. S I really don't care if you read this post or not, even if it upsets her delicate Dickensian sensibilities about the movie that I and more than a few others adore (despite having read the book). I'm writing this out for myself...not for Anne. I don't care if it's "too painful *insert eyeroll here*

Have I lost her? no? Okay then this should do it MOVIE FILM MOVIE FILM!!!! I LOVE THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED MOVIE.

So when I read QotD for the first time all those years ago. I adore the Jesse Reeves and Lestat characters (and yes Baby Jenks, she never gets enough love from the VC fandom). As you may have guess my favorite part to read was the Jesse parts (and sometimes the Daniel parts whenever Armand wasn't annoying me) I was rooting for her and Lestat all the way (yes you read that right. Since it was my first VC I was rooting for she and lestat to get together. Yes I am a Lestat/Jesse shipper and PROUD of it. So when she boldly set foot on the stage I was giddy with delight but all of that came crashing down when the novel ended and scarcly a mention made to her after Maharet "made" her. I finished the book and decided to read TVL which I bought at the same time as QotD, but QotD seemed more interesting to me at the time, so I saved TVL for second (and I may get a lot of hate thrown at me for saying this BUT I'm not really a fan of IwtV (book) It was boring I'm glad I read QotD first because TVL and QotD were the BEST VC books that Anne ever wrote (the only went downhill for me after TotBT then started picking up speed like a person on rollerskates going downhill) but I read them all anyway...until Merrick. Oh what she did to Louis was awful after that book I threw it down and ignored every book afterwards. to me the VC had truly ended after TotBT and nothing anyone, not even Anne can do or say anything to change my mind about it. But I'm hopping all over the place now, which wasn't my intention. So I saw IwtV shortly after reading QotD (and possibly TVL) and I admit it was my favorite vampire movie for a while...until QotD came out in theaters. Well I won't list all the reasons why I love it (because I would be here for DAYS typing if I did) but I though Stuart Townsend was a much better Lestat than Tom Cruise ever thought about being (Although in IwtV we were only seeing Lestat from Louis' POV and not his own at that point)

Stuart was truly the Lestat from the TVL and QotD novels and I personally feel that anyone who could't see that wasn't being open-minded enough (This includes you Anne!). Anyway getting back to the point Lestat and Jesse finally after all those years I finally got what my heart craved Lestat and Jesse together TOGETHER I loved the new interpretation of the books (TVL and QotD) and I love the way the way they managed to find a way to get Jesse and Lestat together the way my dear teenage heart wanted all those years before! I know it's not canon but so what? I consider the movie to be a Alternate Universe to both the VC book series and the IwtV movie. I mean why not? If people (meaning the QotD-bashers+Anne) could just take that notion to heart maybe they'd find that the movie wasn't as bad as the deem it to be? It's not that bad at all they're just a bunch of jerks with massive sticks stuck up-their asses! I love the alternate history of the movie and I just don't understand when it comes to this movie why it doesn't get the repect it deserves.

Wow I wish I could just pinpoint why they're being so rude (or why I can type and type and type and still not get to the point) Okay to sum it up: The QotD film is getting a bum rep that it doesn't deserve, especially from the author and everyone is being an idiot except for the sane people who just happen to like the film. It doesn't deserve to have such...wickedness and bile spewed at it. It was never going to be exactly like the book, if it had it would beed over 12 hours long and that would make for a dreadfully boring movie, no matter how awesome the books (TVL and QotD) are.

Dear Anne Rice,

I have PROOF that you said you liked it. Lie to your fans all you like it doesn't change facts or history that you DID at one time LIKE it! Lying to yourself about it is a whole 'nother ball of wax altogether

Screw you!

With no love for you left at all after that ridiculous facebook post ,

Yes I had to rant after seeing Anne's latest (and one of her most idiotic) facebook post)

One of my favorite Neil Gaiman short stories. I can't post all of it here but there's a link at the bottom if you want to finish it.

Snow, Glass, Apples

Copyright (c) 1994 Neil Gaiman

I do not know what manner of thing she is. None of us do. She killed her mother in the birthing, but that’s never enough to account for it.

They call me wise, but I am far from wise, for all that I foresaw fragments of it, frozen moments caught in pools of water or in the cold glass of my mirror. If I were wise I would not have tried to change what I saw. If I were wise I would have killed myself before ever I encountered her, before ever I caught him.

Wise, and a witch, or so they said, and I’d seen his face in my dreams and in reflections for all my life: sixteen years of dreaming of him before he reined his horse by the bridge that morning, and asked my name. He helped me onto his high horse and we rode together to my little cottage, my face buried in the gold of his hair. He asked for the best of what I had; a king’s right, it was.

His beard was red-bronze in the morning light, and I knew him, not as a king, for I knew nothing of kings then, but as my love. He took all he wanted from me, the right of kings, but he returned to me on the following day, and on the night after that: his beard so red, his hair so gold, his eyes the blue of a summer sky, his skin tanned the gentle brown of ripe wheat.

His daughter was only a child: no more than five years of age when I came to the palace. A portrait of her dead mother hung in the princess’s tower room; a tall woman, hair the colour of dark wood, eyes nut-brown. She was of a different blood to her pale daughter.

The girl would not eat with us.

I do not know where in the palace she ate.

I just took this screencap from the wayback machine from the SciFiWire (it's called blastr now)

That yes beyond all doubt that ANNE RICE did did approve of the "Queen of the Damned" film (2002) calling it and I quote:

"Well-directed, elegant and intriguing, the film is surely destined to take its place among notable modern interpretations of vampire mythology."

No matter what JTheGoblinKing/Amanda/LegendaireLestat/WhatEverTheHellShe'sCallingHerselfNow (she has so many aliases it's hard to keep up) says (yes i am a member of imdb and a lurker of the Dark Shadows(2012 movie)/IwtV/QotD boards. Yes Anne did once approve of the Movie, once she saw how her "fans" reacted though she quickly "changed her mind" and said otherwise.

Anne Rice approves of the Queen or the damned movie

You know I was just thinking of doing for the hell of it? Listing all the DVD of Vampire movies (and TV shows , or episodes if the show itself is not vampire based) that I own. Oh geez, I wonder if I can do it all in one night??

-Moonlight (TV)
-Interview with the vampire
-Queen of the Damned (2 copies, don't ask :p)
-Bram Stoker's Dracula
-Shadow of the Vampire
-(I'm not counting the twilight series although I do have all the movies so far)
-Let Me In
-Ultraviolet (starring Milla Jovovich. I can't immediately find it though)
-Let the Right One In
-The Lost Boys trilogy (see previous entry)
-van Helsing
-Blade (I know I have it around here somewhere)
-Underworld (the first 3 movies, I haven't seen #4 yet)
-Dracula 2000
-Night Stalker (2005, TV) (the "Timeless" episode I think it was)
-True Blood (The First 3 season- I think, but I've only gotten halfway through Season 3 before giving up a while ago. DVD is the only way I can watch it since I don't have HBO)

But personally I was looking to buy a new copy anyway (eventually).

In case you are clueless about to what I am speaking of (and I'm pretty sure you don't but that's okay) So I was initially going to buy either the New Three Musketeers movie on DVD or battle Royale but just almost as soon as I had 3M in my basket I spotted something too irresistible to not buy because who knows when Walmart may yank it off the shelves.

Ir was, however unlikely that would happen but I was not willing on taking chances. I'm referring to the "Vampires collection" 4 Film Favorites DVD set. Yes Queen of the damned bundles with 3 other Warner Brothers Vampire movies all for $10.

That's $2.50 a movie!

the other 3 movies? Well i had seen one of them ages ago but I couldn't get into at the time but Now I'm willing to.

Okay I'll stop beiting around the bush.

The other 3 movies are

-The Lost Boys
-The Lost Boys: The Tribe
-The Lost Boys: The Thirst

yeah I figures what the hey It'll give me something to watch this weekend when I'm not watching Titanic (The movie), Titanic (The mini-series) or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011). The only thing better I think would be if Lestat (Stuart) made a "sibling" for Jesse . Meaning Lisbeth as a vampire. Oh man how fraking awesome would that be?

*is silently willing the TGWTDT-verse and the QotD-verse to somehow exist in the same 'verse!*

Oh dear I think that's a bit too much Diet Dr. Enuf I've had to drink!
